Höhere Fachschule für Tourismus Academia Engiadina, Samedan, 1994—1997, Competition 1st Prize

Promenade with views

Together with the neighbouring buildings the new school creates a central yard and a denser ensemble that leaves room on the site for future extensions.

For the theme of tourism an internal sequence of public spaces is created that reveals a variety of views of the village and the landscape. On the second floor the view is of the Schafberg and of the Segantini Cabin where the painter made his statement “voglio vedere le mie montagne”. All the rooms for the different functions are arranged around this route.

The internal sequence of spaces has structural openings that look as if they have been cut out of the building envelope of large slate slabs. In contrast the functional spaces have box-type windows that are flush with the facade and have integrated sun blinds.
