Quartierentwicklungsleitbild Wollishofen, Zurich, 2011, Planning

Linear poly-centre

Wollishofen did not develop concentrically out of former village structures but rather as a linear, street-related settlement along Seestrasse, Mutschellenstrasse and Albistrasse. On the basis of four guideline approaches settlement areas and open spaces are to be condensed, relieved, activated and linked.

Along the main streets the density is to be increased, the urban building pattern strengthened, and the central boulevard is to be lined by rows of trees. In contrast the pressure to increase the utilization of the settlement area at the rear is to be relieved and the garden city character preserved. The existing large-scale green areas on the hills and at the lake can be gently activated. The creation of continuous route connections along and transverse to the ridge of the hills can help to link the green areas more effectively with each other.
